The operation takes about 90 minutes, as it can often take a little while just to set back the ear in the most natural position. I usually ask patients to check they are happy with the new ear position during surgery.
An otoplasty can be undertaken under local or general anaesthetic depending on the age of the patient and individual choice. This involves re-creating the natural folds of the ears using sutures and cartilage modelling. This may often be undertaken in children teenagers and young adults.
